CONTACTS BETWEEN YOUNG LEADERSHIPS “Israeli Russian Community” and American Jewry
My 15-year's experience with various information and public projects in the Russian-language community of Israel shows that a good moment is present to create a reference group of young Russian leaders in Israel by way of ties between leader groups among them and American Jewry. The young Russian leaders in Israel have proved themselves in work counseling, in student organizations and in promoting various educational, cultural and community projects. The municipal electoral campaign of 1998 was their main proving ground. Young leaders of the Russian community differ from the older groups created in USSR and the traditional Israeli establishment by a greater openness to new ideas of pluralism and of a civil society.
At the same time, Russian Jewry’s Young Leadership is deprived of good public and business relations outside of the community. To help them establish public relations with USA and direct them toward desirable aims, this means to create an influential group which will direct the Israeli public opinion toward the benefits of pluralism.
· The program is designed for fifty public figures, ages thirty to forty, e.g., Municipal Council deputies, journalists and amutot representatives.
The long-run objective of this project will be the creation of a public and political lobby in the Russian community, which hereafter will be able to fight for pluralism and to reinforce he activities of the Pluralism and Human Rights Movement
- Two or three seminars and meetings for creating group familiarity.
- Business visit to the USA for meetings with youth and municipal leaders of American Jewry.
- Reciprocal visits of American groups to Israel.
- Extensive public relations of this project.
This program will include:
Educational courses for Young Leaders, possibly in cooperation with one of the Israeli universities or colleges. Such courses may include Basics of Management, Organizing Public Projects, Basics of Social Psychology, Contemporary English, Modern Advertising, Economic Aspects of Public Activity etc.
Sincerely
Michael Dorfman
